We've completed delivery of 18 loads from Portugal to Derby for the development of the Sinfin Waste Treatment Plant.

Sinfin Waste Plant Delivered from Portugal to Derby for Expeditors

Having already completed similar projects destined for Glasgow and Milton Keynes, Collett were called upon by international freight forwarder Expeditors, to undertake the project.

Beginning in September the Fehn Courage vessel arrived at the Port of Goole direct from the manufacturer in Portugal. Travelling via the Port of Aveiro, the vessel carried a total of 18 pieces of cargo, with a combined total weight of 600 Tonnes, all integral to the development of the waste treatment plant. As the ship arrived at the Port the Collett Team were on hand to oversee all marine agency and stevedoring services whilst the Heavy Lift Team, working under CPA Contract Lift Conditions, began to unload the numerous cargoes utilising a 500 Tonne crane.

After spending the day portside, each load was carefully lifted from the hold of the vessel and secured to the awaiting trailers. Throughout the day, as the loads were discharged from the ship, the trailers left the port, individually moving each cargo to Collett’s nearby Goole depot for storage to await onward transportation to site. Having moved the short distance from the port to our heavy lift depot all 18 loads were safely stored until the plant build schedule was at a sufficient stage to allow for delivery.

On Wednesday 7th October, one week after arriving at the port, the delivery schedule began and the first load left Goole, travelling the 70 mile journey to the build site on Sinfin Lane in Derby. Taking in the rural scenery and navigating the residential streets of Derby, our Team arrived safely on site, one down, 17 to go.

Working on a rolling basis throughout October, and utilising a variety of trailers from the Collett fleet, each load departed from Goole, arriving safely on site later in the day. With the heaviest 80 Tonne loads the route became a little more challenging, navigating the residential streets of Derby and crossing under foot bridges, however our Team rose to the challenge, safely delivering the three boilers on consecutive days.

32 days after the ship’s arrival at the Port of Goole, all of the 18 loads were safely delivered to site.

The waste treatment plant is expected to be fully operational in April 2017 and is expected to handle approximately 19 million Tonnes of waste per year, waste which has historically been sent to landfill sites.

Our Teams handled the project in its entirety, undertaking all planning requirements, permit applications, marine agency services, heavy lift operations, storage and transport to final delivery. Liaising directly with Derby County Council’s Highways Division, Traffic Control Division and Asset Management Division Collett safely delivered each cargo whilst ensuring minimal disruption to other road users throughout.
