Collett ISO Accreditations UKAS Quality, Environmental & Management

We are one of the first companies in the heavy lifting and heavy haulage sector to achieve certification to the new 9001:2015 Quality Management System, the new 14001:2015 Environmental Management System and the existing OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, by the UKAS Accredited British Assessment Bureau.  The 2015 versions of the standards replace the previous versions, that become obsolete in September 2018.

Why has the standard been revised?

ISO standards are reviewed every five years and revised if needed. This helps ensure they remain useful tools for the marketplace. The challenges faced by business and organisations today are very different from a few decades ago and ISO 9001 & 14001 has been updated to take this new environment into account.

For example, increased globalisation has changed the way we do business and organisations often operate more complex supply chains than they did in the past. In addition, there are increased expectations from customers and other interested parties and, with more access to information, today’s wider society has a stronger voice than ever before. ISO 9001 & 14001 needs to reflect these changes in order to remain relevant.

What are the major differences?

The most noticeable change to the standard is its new structure. ISO 9001:2015  & ISO 14001:2015 now follows the same overall structure as other ISO management system standards (known as the High-Level Structure), making it easier for anyone using multiple management systems. More information can be found in Annex SL of ISO/IEC Directives Part 1 (the rules for developing ISO standards). Another major difference is the focus on risk-based thinking. While this has always been part of the standard, the new version gives it increased prominence.

What benefits does the new version bring?

The new version of the standard brings the user a number of benefits.

For example, ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015:

  • Puts greater emphasis on leadership engagement
  • Helps address organisational risks and opportunities in a structured manner
  • Uses simplified language and a common structure and terms, which are particularly helpful to organisations using multiple management systems, such as those for the environment, health & safety, or business continuity
  • Addresses supply chain management more effectively
  • Is more user friendly for service and knowledge based organisations

OHSAS 18001:2007 is currently being re-written by the ISO Standards body, it is currently at draft stage, with the final release of the new Occupational Health and Safety Management standard having an anticipated release date of November 2017, which will be released as ISO 45001:2017. This standard is being written in line with the Annex SL that the 9001:2015 & 14001:2015 have been written to, which will mean this can be incorporated far more easily into the existing two standards to form a full integrated management system for the company.

The introduction of these new system, shows to our customers the continued improvement cycle that the we are developing, leading to greater customer satisfaction and ultimately a better relationship with our stakeholders.
