All sea carriers adpot different standards & procedures for breabulk & project cargo, these will be explained by your Collett Marine Shipping Manager at point or order.

In general terms these are the following elements considered by Collett Marine when we calculate freight & ancillary charges for the import & export of breakbulk and project cargo.

  • Collection from exporter/shipper
  • Terminal handling cost to load, to consolidation or international carrying mode
  • Export/European Union documentation
  • Insurance of goods while in transit
  • International freight
  • Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF)
  • Currency Adjustment Factor (CAF)
  • Special surcharges such as canal charges etc.

Collett Breakbulk & Project Cargo Shipments

  • Terminal handling/unloading at destination
  • Load On, Load Off charges (Lo-Lo) when merchant carriage is used
  • Import/European Union documentation
  • Duty and taxes – where applicable
  • Delivery to importer/receiver of cargo
  • Demurrage or rent charges for delays involved, paid by who causes the delay
  • VAT on charges incurred on intra-European Union movements


Collett Marine will appoint a dedicated Shipping Manager to oversee your project, you Manager will explain the charges relevant to your breakbulk or project cargo shipment at the time of ordering.
