Trailer Operator

The successful candidates will initially be trained to assist with the undertaking of escort duties as required, utilising mechanical and hydraulic rear steer trailers as well as clamp trailers to ensure safe delivery of all components.

These two roles are to be based at our Halifax and/or Goole Depot, although travel will be required to service operations throughout the UK and Europe.

The Role

  • 2 vacancies
  • Located at our Halifax and/or Goole Depots
  • Storekeeping practices and procedures.
  • Care and safe operation of assigned loading equipment.
  • Assistance with configuration of trailer fleet, mobilising/demobilising of hydraulic trailers & SPMTs.
  • Steering/operating hydraulic trailers & SPMTs.
  • Assisting Drivers in securing loads, removal of lashings and unloading.
  • Daily checks of all plant equipment in your care.
  • Training/qualifying for undertaking escort duties, in line with approved code of practice (provided).
  • Use of electric generators, hoses, battery chargers, compressors, power pumps, lifting equipment & forklift trucks.
  • Acting as trailer Banksman/Steersman/Attendant.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Any other duties as required.
  • Monday to Friday 08:00hrs to 17:00hrs, minimum 40 hrs. per week.
  • Overtime and weekend working is required by the demands of the business.
  • Ideally this role requires individuals who have previous experience within the logistics, road haulage or heavy lifting industry.

Qualifications, Qualities & Conditions

  • Full clean driving licence (preferred).
  • Escort Driver qualification – in date (preferred).
  • Previous experience working with hydraulic and/or mechanical equipment (preferred).
  • Fork lift truck licence (preferred).
  • Mechanical trade qualifications (preferred).
  • Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work (preferred).
  • Flexible and willing to learn.
  • Effective communicator at all levels.
  • This is a physically demanding job at times, and so a good level of personal fitness and strength to carry out duties is required.
  • Must be available to work away from base at short notice for long and short periods of time, unconventional working patterns as required.
  • Additionally, evening overtime and additional weekend working is required as needs of the business demands.
  • 28 days holiday per year including Bank Holidays.
  • Contributions to the company pension scheme.
  • Overnight subsistence costs paid when away from base.
