ATF (Approved Test Facility) Operative/Tachograph Technician, Halifax
Closing Date: 15th March 2019

Under the supervision of the ATF Foreman, the successful applicant will ensure the commercial operation of the ATF LGV Test Centre, supervising the correct use of and maximising the operational use of the test lane at all times. This role will include the commercial operation of the Tachograph calibration bay, maximising the use of the calibration bay at all times and undertaking tachograph installations/re-calibrations. Working on the reception area, this position will be both varied and busy as you will be involved with managing reception together with completing all customer service administration.

 Key Outcomes 

  • Undertake the installation of/re-calibration of Tachograph units, both analogue and digital.
  • Responsible for providing general administration for the workshop.
  • Assistance with other workshop activities as and when required.
  • Ensuring customer expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Ensuring all work carried out is in line with customer requirements and any extra work needed is authorised by the customer.
  • Maximising ATF Inspectors efficiency via controlled management of the workshop booking diary.
  • Planning and managing the work load & issuing of work to ATF Inspectors, updating and closing of job cards with notes and explanations added to ensure full understanding for the expenditure.
  • Ensuring vehicles are present prior to scheduled MOT time slots, efficient operation of test bay/commercial use of ATF Inspector.
  • Preparation of vehicles undertaking MOT tests to ensure the requirements of the ATF Inspectors are fully complied with, allowing the test to be undertaken as quickly and efficiently as possible to ensure maximum operational use of the department test lane. (Including but not limited to, loading/unloading of test weights onto vehicles via forklift truck, minor adjustments to lights and any other minor items/adjustments required).
  • Reporting to the ATF Foreman.
  • General housekeeping.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested.

Candidates Must Possess:

  • Experience in installation of/re-calibration of Tachograph units, both analogue and digital.
  • Automotive electrics experience.
  • High level of experience with database & IT systems.
  • IT skills in excel and word.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform in a pressured environment.
  • Good administration skills.
  • Good communication and customer facing skills.
  • Team player/good influencing skills.
  • Good basic literacy skills required for completing relevant check sheets/company documentation.
  • Holder of Class B driving licence essential, Class C+E would be desirable.

Desirable

  • Experience within an automotive industry is desirable.
  • Mechanical knowledge with experience of a workshop environment.
  • Forklift truck operator/license holder.
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers such as garages, suppliers, insurance companies and licensing bodies.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • High achievement drive.
  • Analytical, organisational and motivational skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of servicing and repair of heavy vehicle components, with particular emphasis on MOT preparation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of repair of ancillary equipment, electrical systems and basic fabrication.

Location

The role is based at our Halifax depot, but may be required to travel between other depots or clients in order to oversee or manage some percentage of the task.
