ATF Assistant/Auto Electrician

This is a permanent and full-time role based predominantly at our Halifax ATF Depot.  Under the supervision of ATF Foreman, you are to ensure the commercial operation of the ATF LGV Test Centre, ensuring the correct use of the test lane at all times.

You are to ensure the commercial operation of the Tachograph calibration bay, maximising use and undertaking tachograph installations/re-calibrations.  Working on the reception area, this position will be both varied and busy as you will be involved on managing the reception area together with completing all customer service administration.

Key Outcomes

  • Undertake the installation of/re-calibration of Tachograph units, both analogue and digital.
  • Responsible for providing general administration for the workshop.
  • Assistance with other workshop activities as and when required.
  • Ensuring customer expectations are met and exceeded.
  • Ensuring all work carried out is in line with customer requirements and any extra work needed is authorised by the customer.
  • Maximising ATF Inspectors efficiency via controlled management of the workshop booking diary.
  • Ensuring vehicles are present prior to scheduled MOT time slots, to ensure efficient operation of test bay/commercial use of ATF Inspector.
  • To ensure preparation of vehicles undertaking MOT tests are prepared and the requirements of the ATF Inspectors are fully complied with, allowing the test to be undertaken as quickly and efficiently as possible to ensure maximum operational use of the department test lane. (Including but not limited to loading/unloading of test weights onto vehicles via forklift truck, minor adjustments to lights, any other minor items/adjustments required and undertaking voluntary brake and light tests.)
  • Cost control. Ensure when parts are ordered that the best purchasing practice is used at all times, and all returns are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Raising sales invoices in a timely manner.
  • Working with Accounts Department to ensure payments are received from customer base.
  • Reporting to the ATF Foreman.
  • General Housekeeping.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested

Qualifications

The following requirements are preferred, but not necessarily essential:

  • Experience in installation of/re-calibration of Tachograph units, both analogue and digital.
  • Automotive Electrics experience.
  • Good level of experience with database systems/IT systems.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Holder of Class B driving licence essential, Class C+E would be desirable.
  • Experience within an automotive industry is desirable.
  • Mechanical knowledge with experience of a workshop environment.
  • Forklift truck operator/license holder.
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers such as garages, suppliers, insurance companies and licensing bodies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of repair of ancillary equipment, electrical systems and basic fabrication.

Location

The role is based at our Halifax ATF Depot, but flexibility and mobility is required to carry out the task at our other depots and areas of work as dictated by the business needs.

Conditions

Normal working hours are Monday to Friday 07.30hrs to 16.30hrs, with a one-hour unpaid break taken during the day to suit business needs.  Overtime and weekend working is required by the demands of the business.  28 days holiday per year including Bank Holidays.  Company contributions to the pension scheme is offered subject to conditions.  Overnight subsistence costs are paid when away from base.
