In response to the new SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations which came in to force on 1st July we’ve invested in a new weighbridge at our Head Office in Halifax.
Vanning, de-vanning and container stuffing are key services offered by Collett for the importing and exporting of goods on a worldwide basis. With the addition of our newly installed weighbridge we can continue to offer these services to the highest specifications ensuring maximum safety standards at all times.
The IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee approved changes to the Safety of Life at Sea convention regarding a mandatory container weight verification on shippers. The new regulation requires confirmation of container weights before loaded containers may be placed aboard ships.
There has always been a requirement to declare the gross mass of cargo and containers however, this new requirement also demands the verification of the mass. This is to ensure that the mass declared is a true reflection of the gross mass of the packed container.
The newly installed 18m x 3m weighbridge at our Halifax Depot allows us to adhere to these new regulations, independently verifying the gross weight of containers destined to be shipped by sea. This 100 Tonne capacity addition to our facility allows us to accurately weigh entire vehicles and their cargo ensuring maximum safety and compliance at all times.
